PV market is set to overshoot the highest projections, but the challenges are important
Europe is set to exceed even the highest projections of solar power generation in 2022. After breaking a decade-long installation record in 2021 with 27 GW, 2022 is set to see 39 GW of new European solar capacity, reveals SolarPower Europe.
The market is set to overshoot the highest projections, but the challenges in the PV sector are important. The technology’s contribution was in jeopardy from high raw material costs, logistical challenges and rising module prices, recently warned the analysts Wood Mackenzie.
“A real challenge the sector is facing is a critical skills shortage”, which could “risk not having the number of installers and project developers that we need”, said the policy director of SPE.
The EU intends to reach the new targets through four separate initiatives. The European Solar Rooftops Initiative, announced in May in the Commission’s REPowerEU plan, aims at unlocking the vast, underutilised solar generation potential of rooftops to make our energy cleaner, more secure and affordable.
