2021, the best year in European solar history
In 2021, the European Union have installed 25.9 GW of new solar PV capacity, growing 34% on annual basis.
In 2025, the EU solar market is expected to almost double compared to today – 49.7 GW vs. 25.9 GW.
SolarPower Europe expects 18-20% medium growth rates, adding around 162.7 GW to reach 327.6 GW by the end of 2025.
This means the EU solar power generation fleet will double within four years from the 164.9 GW in operation today.
Buildings represent about 36% of the EU’s energy consumption and produce around 40% of the bloc’s greenhouse gas emissions. On-site solar should be mobilised as a key solution to decarbonise the EU building stock.
