Church in Lille (France), between heritage preservation and ecological innovation
Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church, located in the Wazemmes district of Lille, began its transformation in January 2023, and the project was completed in December 2024. This ambitious undertaking, combining heritage preservation with ecological innovation, marks a significant milestone for the City of Lille.
The completed work includes:
- The complete restoration of the roof, wooden frameworks, zinc work, and gutters.
- The refurbishment of facades, stone cornices, and historic stained glass windows.
- The installation of 201 photovoltaic solar panels, discreetly integrated using the GSE IN-ROOF SYSTEM.
These solar panels, with a production capacity of 63,000 watts at peak power, now supply energy to nearby municipal infrastructures such as the Wazemmes market hall. Any surplus energy is injected into the public grid, reinforcing Lille’s commitment to renewable energy.
This project, representing an investment of €6.5 million, is part of an ambitious energy transition policy, aiming to equip 21,000 m² of municipal roofs with solar panels.
Thanks to the expertise of GSE Intégration, the 201 photovoltaic solar panels were seamlessly integrated into the roof using the innovative GSE IN-ROOF SYSTEM. This mounting system ensures perfect aesthetic discretion while guaranteeing optimal energy efficiency.
Entrusted to 1090 – Architects for project management and SAS Genty for roofing and asbestos removal, this project is now a successful model of synergy between tradition, innovation, and sustainability.
Saint-Pierre Saint-Paul Church now shines with new splendor, thanks to a restoration that respects its heritage and makes a significant contribution to a sustainable future, supported by cutting-edge solutions.
